Rhydian Jenkins: Tenor
Welsh Tenor Rhydian Jenkins is as a member of the International Opera Studio at Oper Köln. A former Young Artist at the National Opera Studio, Garsington Opera Alvarez Young Artist and Longborough Festival Opera Emerging Artist, he graduated from the David Seligman Opera School at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and won both the 2019 Bryn Terfel Scholarship and the 2021 MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year Prize. This season at Oper Köln, roles included Pang (Turandot), Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro), Lamplighter (Manon Lescaut). This summer, he makes his house debut at Stadttheater Gießen performing the role of Sellem in The Rake’s Progress, followed by returning to the UK to perform the role of Malcolm and Macduff (cover) in Longborough Festival Opera’s production of Verdi’s Macbeth. Other roles include Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Peter Quint/Prologue (The Turn of the Screw), Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Ruggero (La rondine) and Alfred (Die Fledermaus). He has performed at venues including The Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Wales Millennium Centre and Bridgewater Hall. Next season, Rhydian returns to Oper Köln to perform the roles of Jamie & Lord Boxington (My Fair Lady), Hörfling (Die Nachtigall) and Malcolm (Macbeth – cover) and makes European debuts at Opéra de Lausanne performing the role of Prologue (The Turn of the Screw), and Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Da Ponte Opera Festival in Italy.
