Iona Boyd: Director

Iona Boyd is a stage director based in Edinburgh. She works nationally in the UK with companies such as the Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera and Opera North, as well as internationally in venues including the Musikverein and the Estates Theatre, Prague. Recent assisting engagements include La Bohème for Scottish Opera, Pimpinone for the Royal Opera House and Pass the Spoon for Opera North. As a director, Iona’s work focuses on truthful storytelling which examines the complex grey areas of the human experience. Her production of Waking the Witch for Renegade Opera Oregon was awarded Best Opera Production by BroadwayWorld, and All Edinburgh Theatre describes her work as “beguiling, entertaining and magical.” Iona is passionate about accessibility and outreach within the opera industry and works frequently on Young Artist and community projects. This year she was the director and facilitator for Scottish Opera’s Children’s Chorus Spring project and has worked closely with Edinburgh Studio Opera at the University of Edinburgh. Iona will return to Scottish Opera to assist Ruth Knight on her new production of Fidelio, as well as Opera North to assist Caroline Clegg on her revival of Orpheus.
