Christian Schneeberger: Tenor
Born in Glasgow, Christian Schneeberger studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he won the Glasgow Grand Society Opera Cup, the Hugh S. Robertson Prize for Scottish Singing, and the William Allan Prize.
He has appeared throughout the UK as a recitalist, oratorio soloist, and opera singer. His solo highlights include Verdi’s Requiem with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with the Newton Stewart Singers, Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri in Dundee’s Caird Hall, Handel’s Messiah with the Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Handel’s Chandos Anthem No. 2, which was praised for “just the right fiery clarity … perfect clarity of diction.” In Bach’s St John Passion with Stonehaven Chorus, he performed as Evangelist, earning commendation: “Special paeans of praise must go to Christian Schneeberger … he never tired. His lovely clear tenor voice was perfect for the part and he added so much emotion and expression to his singing.”
Christian has been well received in continental competitions, achieving Distinction in both the NOMEA International and Neapolitan Masters, and reaching the second round of the prestigious Neue Stimmen competition.
He performs regularly with Scottish Opera, most recently in their production of Tristan und Isolde. He also appears with Opera Bohemia, Opera Alba, Scozzesi, and in concert series such as Celebrating Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern. He recently took part in Two Tenors at Twilight for the James Joyce Symposium at the University of Glasgow.
Between performances, Christian is a voice teacher at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, George Heriot’s School, and the University of St Andrews.
